Following the delivery of the 'absolute nullity' decision regarding the 38th Ordinary Congress in which a change of chairman took place in the CHP and the subsequent declaration of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as chairman once again, CHP delegates wishing for the party to head to a congress delivered the signatures they gathered to the party's headquarters.
The signatures gathered by the CHP provincial organisations with the request for a congress were submitted to the CHP Headquarters at 11:45.
Among the figures who brought the signatures, alongside 74 CHP provincial chairmen, were Murat Emir, the CHP Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Group Deputy Chairman, and Özgür Çelik, the CHP İstanbul Provincial Chairman.
Following the delivery, CHP officials will hold a press statement in front of the headquarters building.
SIGNED BY MORE THAN 1,000 DELEGATES
According to information obtained by BirGün, a total of 1,003 signatures were delivered, representing 80 provincial organisations along with provincial chairmen and the congress delegates of provinces without a provincial chairman. The signatures of the İstanbul delegates are not notarised. More than 800 of the signatures, however, are notarised.
Making statements at the TBMM two days ago, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir had used the expressions, "On Wednesday, with nearly 900 signatures, we will convey our request for an extraordinary congress to our Headquarters together with our 74 provincial chairmen and the delegates of our provinces who do not act jointly with us, in order to take a decision for a congress."
Following Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's return to the chairmanship in the CHP via the absolute nullity decision, the elected administration of the party is immediately requesting an extraordinary congress. The elected leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, had said that the party must head to a congress within 45 days and that they are exerting efforts in this direction.
THREE WAYS TO AN EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS
According to the CHP bylaws, there are three ways to convene an extraordinary congress. The chairman can directly call for a congress, the Party Assembly can pass a resolution to this effect, or one-fifth of the congress members can request an extraordinary congress with their notarised signatures.
The signatures of the delegates are gathered within a 15-day period and delivered to the chairmanship. Following the application, the extraordinary congress must be held within 45 days at the latest.
The signatures of more than 800 delegates mean that the absolute majority required for an extraordinary congress with elections has been exceeded.
