Ahead of the NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government, to be held in Ankara on July 7–8, every resource of the state has been mobilized. As part of the summit preparations, in addition to measures such as postponing exams, evacuating student dormitories, banning various events, and granting administrative leave to public employees, road resurfacing and landscaping projects are also continuing.
DOGS TO BE ROUNDED UP
Finally, a letter sent by the Ankara Provincial Police Department to municipalities ahead of the summit drew attention. According to a report in Evrensel, the Police Department, in a letter sent to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, and numerous district municipalities, requested that stray dogs around the routes, event areas, airports, and accommodation facilities to be used during the NATO Summit be rounded up before the summit. Meanwhile, while the Ministry of National Defence’s announcement that Italy’s SAMP-T air defence system would be deployed to the 3rd Main Jet Base Command in Konya under NATO’s Standing Defence Plan was presented as “strengthening the alliance’s air defence,” NATO systems deployed to various regions of Turkey are also drawing attention.
While the air defence systems recently deployed to Konya, Malatya, and Adana are presented under the pretext of public safety, the Palace regime—which seeks legitimacy in U.S. imperialism—continues to serve the purpose of protecting NATO’s military infrastructure in the region.
