A release order has been issued for our reporter İsmail Arı, who has been detained for 75 days for practising journalism.
Appearing before a judge for the first time today, İsmail Arı stated in his defence that he was merely practising journalism and was being punished for this reason.
THE PROSECUTOR HAD REQUESTED THE CONTINUATION OF DETENTION
Following the defences of Arı and his lawyers, the prosecution requested the continuation of the detention of Arı, who has been in prison for 2.5 months.
Announcing the decision after the objections of the lawyers, the presiding judge ordered Arı's release, stating: "Considering that the defendant's defence has been taken, the duration of his detention, the fact that the defendant has no opportunity to obscure evidence, and that he possesses a fixed residence, it is understood upon joint evaluation that the grounds for detention no longer apply..."
No judicial control measures will be applied to İsmail Arı. Arı will be released from Sincan Prison, where he has been detained for 2.5 months.
The next hearing of the case will be held on 9 October at 14:00.
